Firstly, we’d like to thank Jim, Gilly and Douglas for asking us to be your Vice Captains. You’ve had a fabulous year and one thing is certain - you achieved your objective of having fun! During 2023/24 you were also blessed with some beautiful weather. They say the sun shines on the righteous! It certainly did on the days that were important, Captains' Days, Away Days and Coronation Day to name a few. Less said about the wet winter the better!
We are hoping the unprecedented wet weather is well and truly behind us as we go into the Spring, and we’re going to have a glorious Summer and a golf season we can all enjoy.
We are all really looking forward to this next year and feel privileged and honoured to be your Captains. Stanton-on-the-Wolds to us is very special. It’s a great Club, with a great history, some fabulous Members, loyal staff and a beautiful course - we are very fortunate.
Our chosen charity for 2024 is the Radford Care Group. Its cause is very close to all our hearts, including our Vice Captains, Rob, Di and Simon. For those who haven’t heard of them, they are based in Radford, Nottingham and do some tremendous work supporting people who have been diagnosed with dementia as well as their carers. As a team, we thought long and hard about which charity we wanted to support. Our criteria were local, not a large well known charity, and had to have a personal connection. When we came to discuss the possible options, it was a collaborative and unanimous decision. Bev and her team do some amazing work and receive little funding - in fact saying she was overwhelmed when we approached her about supporting them for the year is an understatement. This is the first time they have been chosen by a golf club, company or individual in this way, so we are delighted to offer our support.
Our aim for this next year is simple. We want everyone to play great golf and have lots of fun, and if we can help you achieve this, all the better. We are a close team and we want to do what’s right for you, the Members. Without you, we wouldn’t have the great Club we all love, and we can only do this by listening to your feedback and ideas. Whilst we will try wherever possible to please, we won’t be able to please everyone, so our plan is to ensure communication and regular updates of what’s happening are shared with you in a timely manner, and we will always listen to your views.
We will also endeavour to support the staff in the Office, the Clubhouse, the Green Keepers and the Pro Shop. We would like your support too by acknowledging the numerous volunteers who give up their valuable time to make sure we all have a great experience, and are sure you, like us, appreciate the work they do in the background.
In summary we want to build on the great successes of 2023 by having more fun, more golf, less rain, and more sunshine. Here’s to 2024 - we hope you enjoy it as much as we intend to!
