The Captains

Sue Matthews & Roger Bratton

Like our predecessors, Louise and Ian, we are proud to be your Captains for the forthcoming season. Despite Covid 19 Louise and Ian were able to hold some functions and duties that go towards the rewarding experience of being your Captains.

We are happy to introduce Vice Captains Jeff Hayward and Sue Barber and are confident that together we will do all we can to make 21/22 a good golfing year.

We are looking forward this year to welcoming back Members who, due to lockdowns and other necessary interruptions last year and into 2021, were denied the enjoyment of friendly/competitive games and welcome refreshment at the 19th hole. Until we get the “all clear” we will, as always, be guided by England Golf and keep within Government guidelines.

The Green Staff have done their traditional excellent work and the fairways and fast greens will have lost none of their attributes that make Stanton one of the top courses in the County.

As part of the return to normality we have sketched out a preliminary calendar of social functions with something to please everyone. Hopefully, conditions will permit us to carefully start to enjoy mixed company again in our Club House.

Our Senior section is also gearing up to a new season with their own set of friendly and competitive matches and mixed competitions for those over the age of 55. Seniors Captain Mike Styles and Vice Captain Chris Blainey will ensure you receive a warm welcome.

Our chosen charity for the year is Nottinghamshire Hospice, a local charity who do amazing work in supporting individuals, families, and carers. The hospice provides crucial palliative care in patients’ own homes during the last weeks, days and hours of their lives, and support for their families and carers. This care enables patients to be discharged from hospital to spend their last days at home with family around them. Hospice nursing teams support families 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in every neighbourhood of our city and county.

We hope to raise much needed funds for them through the year and details of their work can be found on the Nottinghamshire Hospice website and we’ll let you know of our fund raising plans and dedicated online SOWGC fund raising platform in due course.

We would like to wish everyone a fun and enjoyable year of golf and social activities at the club and look forward to meeting you again as restrictions are eased.

Best Wishes from your Captains

Sue & Roger
